About us:

The Institute for blind and visually impaired children and adults in Luxembourg (Institut pour Déficients Visuels) has two main missions:

1. Supporting children and young people in elementary and secondary school as well as at university.

  • Age of students: 3 years to end of formal education
  • Impairment: visually impaired children and also children with specific complex educational needs
  • The IDV does not have its own class rooms. All the students are attending regular school or schools for children with complex educational needs. The itinerant special educational assistants are implementing all the measures necessary to make education in mainstream schools possible
    Special training at home, in the community or in our Institute

2. Special courses in adult education for people with visual impairments:

  • Adult education at the IDV offers more than 50 different courses for blind and visually impaired people.

In addition to these main objectives, the IDV also does assessments for Assurance Dépendance – equipment for independence at home – and cooperates with the Ministry of Work/ Service Integration for impaired (here visually) adult people.
