The Lithuanian Education Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LASUC) is a public budgetary institution and a state school that educates children with visual impairments and other complex disabilities.
LASUC implements various educational programs, including preschool and pre-primary education, primary education, individualized primary education, basic education, individualized basic education, accredited secondary education, social skills development, and non-formal education. Students participate in orientation and mobility training, daily living skills classes, vision training, and Braille literacy sessions. In their free time, they can join music, dance, theatre, showdown and goalball clubs.
LASUC offers students with visual impairments from across the country the opportunity to attend temporary learning programs (lasting one week, one month, or one year) aimed at improving their Braille literacy, orientation and mobility skills, an IT competencies.
LASUC is the only educational support center in Lithuania that provides assistance to students with visual impairments in mainstream schools. Its specialists conduct typhlopedagogical sessions, provide consultations on environmental adaptation, and supply Braille textbooks.
LASUC also develops methodological and teaching resources and organizes professional development for teachers in mainstream schools working with blind and visually impaired students. These include seminars, conferences, and public consultations.
